THE ARTIST

Hi, I’m Julia, Owner / Artist of Driftwood and Decor. I live in Palm Coast, Florida, a gorgeous part of the state that retains the Old Florida connection to nature.

With both the coast and subtropical forests, I grew up surrounded by so much incredible beauty that I was inspired to create art that celebrates this place I call home.

My work is primarily decorative coastal art, but I also enjoy creating experiences for community events and small businesses.

THE ART

The diversity of shells on Florida’s shores is amazing – it’s known to have some of the best shelling in the world. The calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico leave shells in their entireity and remarkable specimens can be found any time of the year. Meanwhile the rougher Atlantic side of the peninsula can leave behind just pieces of shells, making beachcombing a challenge and the shells found whole are precious.

Coquina – donax variabillis – has a long history in the northeast part of the state, thousands, even millions, of years. Today, I use the coquina shells in my art out of a deep commitment to showcase the natural beauty of my home. Using local materials decreases the overall environmental impact of my work. The handmade local movement is an important return to a practice that supports community and nature.

Local Presence
